Flokati Funky Fresh

I love hair on hide.  Just love it.  The texture, the organic-ness, the subtle-ness and then the funky and unexpected element.  Especially since when I use it in interior projects it is usually not in a lodge setting but more of a "California Fresh" look.

Hair-on-Hides cousin would be the Flokati.  Flokati is a natural wool "fur" if you will, hand woven from sheep's wool (traditionally from the Pindus and Vlachs mountain region) and then once woven, placed in a river (traditionally speaking) where the water creates abrasions on the tufts and softens the wool.  (via)

Very popular in the 60's and 70's they have made their way back into the mainstream of modern design. Have a mid-century mod place?  Throw a Flokati down and call it done- you've just nailed a period look!  Maybe they keep coming back because they are super-super durable. Wool is one of the most sturdy materials and the fact that it is a "shag" makes it always look new (think of uniform surfaces, when they wear you can see exactly where it is, not so much on a super uneven surface).

Now, let's put this playful, soft, furry durable and sexy material on some furniture and all oooh and ahh...
Upholstering on a bench.  HOT and a quick fresh change!

Oh Kelly.  You ALWAYS nail it. (source)

I love me some hoof and hide.  Just love it!
Super fun and fresh.  Against the antique brass this is delightful! (source)

Love this one dyed a darker sexy grey. Creates a really flirty moody room.

A Flokati atop a Ghost Chair is a win.

White room- yes!  I love the subtle brown accents and of course the super textured pillows being Flokati.
